What It Means to Be an American

America-
Where consumerism plagues minds.
Where products, beliefs, and agendas
are forced into daily lives through the media.
Where people pass each other on the street,
and look away to avoid interaction.
Where people text and email
instead of face to face collaboration.
Where hard work is amplified by the individual
because relying on others is weak.

Where people are often frightened
outside of their comfort zones.
Where racism, sexism, and hatred of others
is ingrained into the culture.
Where religion is said to be free.
Where the oppressed are beaten down
in an effort to keep it that way.
Where the pursuit of happiness
is about fitting into a mold.
Where hate crimes and injustice
happen every minute.

Where loneliness is abundant.
Where people are crawling out of the darkness,
and crying out for change.
Where there’s a love that lingers beneath it all.
Where the light is found
when the mold is broken.
Where people have the right to rise up,
and fight for freedom, against inequality.

Where a movement of acceptance and love,
is brewing.
Where making a change, and becoming who you want to be
is more than a possibility.
When perception becomes reality.

I'm forgiven because you were forsaken.

Bitten for the first time
Awakened by the truth
Heaven awaits our cry
Forgiven by the proof

The Way to Love.

"I leave you free to be yourself: to think your thoughts, to indulge your tastes, follow your inclinations, behave in ways that you decide are to your liking." -Anthony De Mello

The first step is admitting that you have a problem.

I'm not sure how it ended up this way. I used to love being different, trying new things, and being myself. Now all I feel is paranoia, always wondering what others are thinking of what I do, how I dress, or how I talk. All of this constant worry about what others opinions are stifle who I really am. I'm sick of caring what everyone thinks. I'm tired of going through life feeling as though I'm constantly being judged. Trying to figure out who I am and finally be me.  -Bea

Crossroads.

Sitting at the crossroads between loyalty and happiness.
Do I do what will make me happy if it upsets those I love?
Living life for myself, then I'm selfish.
Living life for others, then I'm mindless.

Mother's Day

Yesterday was mother's day so my family went to Golden Dragon for lunch. Somehow I ended up having to sit at the kid's table. We were all sitting and eating when my dad walked passed my grandma. She grabbed his arm really quick and said, "what's the matter you don't want me to touch you? well i'm going to anyway, and i'm going to pray aloud for you too!" I don't know why but I started laughing so hard.
